Don't Fail Online - Part I
by: Julian Brinkley

In today's age more and more businesses are finding
it essential to have a website as an extension of
their presence. In many cases it has actually become
rare to see a business that does not have its own
website. Go to any city and you will find all types
of business looking for this service. Here in North
Carolina it is becoming critical to find web
designers in places like Charlotte where business is
booming.
Having the right web design in Charlotte is a
powerful marketing tool for a company to display
their services or products and help predispose a
potential customer or client into using their
business. To that end the business of web design
and web designers in Charlotte has
taken on a great importance.
Your website is a representative of your company and
as such it needs to project your company mandate
clearly and properly. In view of that, careful
planning must take place to ensure from the
beginning that your website has two very important
factors in place. Navigation (the ability to find
information easily) and Design (If your website
doesn't represent you your clients will not trust
you).
Navigation
A well designed website knows your target market and helps them find what they need very quickly.
- Situation A: This website is well organized and easy to navigate (2-3 hyperlinks to target pages), well planned in terms of placement, and design.
- Situation B: Website that is difficult to navigate (almost impossible for a visitor to find his/her target page), hard-to-read fonts and poor placement of the navigation buttons/bar.
With Situation A, a visitor will always want to be able to access his/her target page. For example, the individual comes across your website, and is interested in the product sold, but wants to find more information. He/she finds the navigation with no trouble, and enters the particular product information page. Thereafter because the visitor has instant access to information the likelihood is that you will be doing business with them.
When we arrive at Situation B, The visitor lands on
your website and is simply confused. He keeps
clicking link after link taking him nowhere near
what he is looking for to settle his mind. He gets
frustrated and likens the going around in circles on
your website to the level of service he will receive
from you. Eventually he decides enough is enough and
he leaves.
The end result is that it is clear that in order to
give the right impressions to your potential
customers that you can help them and provide a
service, it has to start with how accessible and
easy you make interacting with your company online.
Design
To give you an idea of how important design is. If you walked into a shop and looked at 2 T-shirts with exactly the same material, your decision on which one to buy would come down to one factor: design
When it comes to our website this takes on critical
importance. Your design layout directly represents
your branding. It says a lot about your energy and
your belief in your services. It stands to reason
that if you were looking to hire a graphic design
artist and you arrived on their site to find no
images at all and a little bit of text telling you
where to find their telephone number, chances are
you would never hire them.
The converse is true if you arrived on a website
with breathtaking graphics and a layout that treated
your eyes. You would be staring at the images in awe
and immediately feel confident to use their
services. That is the power of imagery and why
design is critical to your success.
In order to take advantage of these two elements you
would need to consult with a professional designer.
Someone who has both web design and graphic design
skills and can guide you through either a new set up
or a rebuild ( redesign your old website and make it
look amazing ). If your business is situated in Charlotte
